Waqif Rafie obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Malay Sociocultural Studies from Universiti Malaya (UM). He later pursued and graduated with a Master’s in Fine Art and Technology from the Faculty of Art and Design, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. His work was born from reflections on cultural and societal identity. Through airbrush techniques, splashes, and sprays of paint, it creates a blurred effect, resembling faint traces that symbolize how culture itself is constantly in the process of formation, inheritance, and adaptation. Each pattern produced is my interpretation of natural elements, repeated to form rhythm and harmony. For me, this process mirrors the journey of culture, it is built through layers of experience, interaction, and adaptation. In this context, I view culture not as something static, but as a functioning system that must be understood within its own context. The blurriness in this work is not merely a loss of form, but a reflective space that contemplates how identity and culture are constantly moving between what is inherited, transformed, or left behind.
