Irsyad Maktar practice sits at the intersection of art, mathematics, and the natural sciences. Drawing inspiration from molecular structures, chemical bonding, and the universal patterns that underpin life, their work investigates how simple units can combine to form complex, dynamic systems. Each sculpture begins with a precise modular methodology, individual components engineered through mathematical calculations and then assembled into larger, evolving forms. Exploring concepts of unity, repetition, and transformation, Irsyad examines the shred structural language found from atoms to molecules to the architecture if the human body. This fascination with underlying framework manifests in sculptural forms that echo natural systems such as the spine, a symbol of strength, balance, and interdependence. Working primarily with Merbau hardwood for its durability and warmth, he combines hand-crafted wooden modules with industrial materials such as stainless-steel and aluminium wire. This merging of organic and manufactured elements reflects the continual interplay between nature, structure, and change. Many of the sculptures are intentionally decomposable and reconfigurable, allowing forms to be rebuilt, reconsidered, and transformed, mirroring the adaptable patterns found throughout the natural world.
